The Musical World of

Jeff Pinchbeck

A very brief introduction

Jeff is an independent international recording artist and electronic music composer experimenting with non-dance sounds and rhythms since 1982. Recent work involves experimenting with the concept of a musical tonal story where the title sets a theme, and the music and sound fills in the backdrop for the listener's imagination. This idea is similar in concept to the early 19th and 20th century composition style of tone poem or symphonic poem popularized by Liszt, Strauss, Sibelius and many others.

Jeff is the elder brother of Edmonton stationed electroacoustic music composer and media artist Shawn Pinchbeck. Jeff started his musical training at the age of 6 studying piano and later guitar and percussion. During his school age years he sang in school, church choirs and amature theatre. In the early 1980s he started experimenting with synthesizers, sound design and programming.

He enjoys off-beat and unusual music. His early musical listen list included artists like Jean Michel Jarre, Isao Tomita, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze along with pop sounds from artists like Kraftwerk, Ultravox, John Foxx and others.

Today, when he's not working on his own music, he's enjoying Japanese electronic artists like Tenmon (Atsushi Shirakawa), CAPSULE (Yasutaka Nakata), Yuki Kajiura, SawanoHiroyuki[nZk], and I've Sound(and the various artists associated) along with artists such as Radwimps, Orge You Asshole, Galileo Galilei, Daoko and more.
